We're holding a public webinar to talk in more
detail about our recently published draft budget proposals for
2024/25 and answer your questions.
It'staking
place on Thursday 1 February from 5:30pm, when
you will hear from Leader of Wiltshire Council Cllr Richard Clewer
and Cabinet Member for Finance Cllr Nick Botterill, as they talk
through the proposals, which detail how we will provide quality
services while balancing the budget and not relying on using
reserves.
Following recent heavy rain and flooding around the
county, it is important that you are prepared and know what to do
in case of further incidents.
This winter has been exceptionally wet, with several storms
battering the county and a risk of more flooding, particularly in
areas that are already at risk of river or groundwater flooding.
You should take steps to reduce the risk to your properties by
installing property protection measures if you live in a high-risk
area. These can be resistance measures designed to stop water
coming in, such as a flood door, or resilience measures, which can
help to reduce the impact of any flooding, such as raising any
fitting tiled flooring.
Have you
had your measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccinations?
UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has reported an
increase in measles across the country and is encouraging people to
check that they and their children have had two doses of the MMR
vaccine.
The free MMR vaccine is a safe and effective way of protecting
against measles, as well as mumps and rubella.
It’s important for parents to take up the offer of MMR vaccination
for their children when offered at one year of age and as a
pre-school booster at three years, four months of age.
There’s lots on offer at Wiltshire libraries next
month.
As well as providing a vast range of books and eBooks, our
libraries also provide events to improve your maths skills,
resources to help you pass your driving theory test, 60 years of
television history available to access online for free, and warm
packs to support you during the winter.
Street Tag is an interactive app which you can use
to explore your local community and to understand more about your
health and physical wellbeing. You'll be able to download and start
using it from Monday 29 January.
The app allows you to scan virtual tags at locations across
Wiltshire to record the distance that you have walked, cycled, run,
or used a wheelchair between the locations. You will collect points
for visiting Street Tag locations and you can compete as an
individual, team or with your school to win prizes.
Activity trackers and blood pressure monitors will be available to
use alongside the app. These are available to borrow for free from
Trowbridge or Chippenham libraries as well as the North and South
mobile libraries.
A short breaks provision for children and young
people has been given a 'Good' rating by Ofsted.
Ofsted visited Canon's House in Devizes which provides a short
break service for up to four children at a time. Children may have
physical disabilities, learning disabilities and/or sensory
impairment and are able to increase their social skills while learning
in a safe environment.
